Perbandingan Aspek Mobilitas Standar IEEE 802.16a dengan IEEE 802.16e pada WiMax

ABSTRAK

The need of data connection which is given by WiFi (Wide Fidelity) technology is felt still less and having limits in number of user, coverage area, and data rate. The presence of WiMAX with the IEEE 802.16 Standard give connection choise with high data rate, handle more user and wider coverage area.

This paper explains the mobility aspect consederation of IEEE 802.16a and 802.16e standard which is used by WiMAX in Physical Layer. There are several aspects such as services application, coverage area, and channel condition. IEEE 802.16a and 802.16e standard are the beginning and the end of WiMAX evolution / migration that cause the significant differences between both of them. The consederation and differences are very clear and real which is completed by visualization using Macromedia Flash program.

802.16a standard is employed for fixed access such as wireless backhaul, residentials , and enterprises. With coverage area about 4 – 9 km in NLOS condition and 30 – 50 km in LOS Condition, this standard support data rate until 70 Mbps. 802.16e standard is very specific purpose for mobile users like mobile phone, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) and laptop which data rate until 15 Mbps. In outdoor, this standard can cover area about 2 – 7 km and for indoor about 1 – 5 km
